双面同时涂布意味着在生产过程中只需要一次干燥过程, 被涂布基材也只要一次加热和冷却, 减少了能量消耗和材料的浪费, 同时降低了材料自身的热变性能。
在这个工艺过程中, 避免了和解决了纸张基材边缘失水卷边和过度干燥的问题,也就是后道工序中不需要回湿技术。
另外, 烘箱长度可以大大缩短, 双面同时涂布降低了纸张基材的干燥失水, 涂布生产线的缩短大大节省了厂房空间。 当然,操作人数也相应减少,一个操作员工可以同时完成双面涂布过程。

With a double-side coating unit - a process that KROENERT has developed for siliconisation together with one of their customers - the energy consumption of the coating process is significantly optimised. This concept is particularly suitable for solvent-free silicones; a typical application being double-sided adhesive tape. The simultaneous, double-side coating means that only one drying process is necessary, which leads to energy savings. The substrate is only being heated once in the dryer and then cooled, thereby reducing energy costs. Material waste is also reduced as the substrate is exposed to less thermal stress.
In this coating process it is ensured that the paper substrate does not curl and over-drying on one side is prevented. This means that there is no need for remoistening.
Another advantage is the shortened length of the dryer. Simultaneously coating the front and reverse sides clearly reduces the drying of the paper substrates, so the coating line can be significantly shortened so as to save space. It also means that fewer staff is required, since one operator is now able to monitor two coatings simultaneously.
The overall result shows a significant increase in line productivity – and joint success for KROENERT’s engineers and the customer.
The innovative double-side coating unit found its way into the KROENERT portfolio and can now be incorporated into new lines or retrofitted into existing lines.
The process of double-side siliconisation is particularly suitable for paper substrates, that are used as release liners for adhesive tapes for example or also for graphic products.
Alternatively wet-on-wet coating processes are possible. The coating is done via a slide die, with which two layers - primer and topcoat – can be applied simultaneously. This enables a precise coating application even at high speeds of up to 1,300 m/min. The advantage is that several coats can be applied, but only one drying process is required. The challenge is to develop suitable formulas for this process.
In the past, if a substrate was to be coated on both sides, this was regularly carried out sequentially in two consecutive processes. In the consequence this required two coating units and two dryers. Today these steps can be done in one process, reducing energy, waste, time and staff, while increasing efficiency.

In the development of a line for a customer in the label industry, the idea of simultaneously coating both sides came up. This was a case for the experts at KROENERT to come up with an excellent solution – the double side coating unit.
Investing much experience and technical innovation, the KROENERT team realised a novel solution. An individual coating unit was developed which enabled coating on one or both sides and at the same time allowing different coatings.
